Gone and bought  some mulberry trees , so any advice about getting them to thrive produce  a load of fruit etc

Not come across them  fruiting in a garden etc, plan is to plant them in the garden for the fruit.

Internets says they get 10m wide 8m tall, or can be grown in pots.

Atm they are  5inch saplings in pots.

Thanks hard too find  in depth info online about growing them as an orchard tree etc.

Bit here about an old mulberry orchard:

Telling the tale of London's mulberry tree heritage through research, a survey, foraging tips and recipes.

Seem like they are London centric thing?

& some permaculture stuff:

All you need to know about the three types of mulberry. From habitat, feeding, irrigation, yields, pests, its uses in...

Seems very optumistic with regards to fruiting maybe in a different climate?

Quote

Mulberry Yields

Trees grown from seed will start to fruit in the 5th or 6th year. Cultivar whips should start to fruit in the 2nd or 3rd year.

Younger trees can be expected to yield between 3-5 kg in the first 2-4 years when fruiting begins. A mature tree of 20-30 years will produce well over 300kg of fruit.

My sister has one

she lives near Ely cambridgeshire

its big for a fruit tree

lots of fruit

they are tasty but have a short time between unripe and over ripe

messy purple hands

never seems to get pruned

perhaps it could have been kept manageable if pruned from its youth ?

good luck

We have a 15 year old black one that fruits heavily but as you say the window for picking them is small, the fruits don't ripen at the same time and they tend to rot or dry before ripe. Ours grew to the 1st floor eaves so I took the top out this year so I could reach the fruit from steps. The fruit freezes well and I had the last from the freezer with ice cream yesterday.
