Mystery tropical tree with tiger-stripe bark

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can someone please help me identify this tree?  I saw it in the Jose Marti Parc in Cienfuegos in Cuba.  Sorry I didn't get the leaves or the canopy.  It was quite tall if I remember rightly.  Perhaps it is a type of palm tree?

Many thanks,
David.

Most excellent, Mick, thank you.  I had seen some images of the bark of this tree and it didn't seem to fit - looking more closely I can see that it is indeed it probably is!

Nice image of you smoking the leaves of another plant.

It's not so strange it's from Alamy as that is where I've placed it!

Best wishes,

David.
