I was going to have a punt at a White Oak . Common in the U.S. but as you say not so much here . .

Quite a gnarly looking one from the picture.
Usually more an arboretum tree over here
I think they are decent timber when straight. Floor boards and the like.

To be honest the only reason I went with a White Oak was that some time back someone in the U.S. posted a pic of a felled tree askiing if anyone could I.D. it  . I was the first reply and went with White Oak ( as it was obviouse it was an Oak of some sort )  and killed the thread there and then . It was a punt but I had an gut feeling as it was in America . ☺️

Was thinking sessile as a guess.

Or a hybrid again. Initially thought the leaves looked a bit like Q. cerris. But may be combination of a couple.

Oaks are pretty amazing in that the leaves on one tree can all be different sizes and look quite different.

Did a picus test on another Oak tree last week which had a lot of the same characteristics of this one, such as the weeping form, and similarities in the bark. Any suggestions on this leaf?

What were the results of the Picus Steve, if of course you can tell us.
