Very true. But SC grows so many times faster than beech, and seasons quicker.
You ever eaten beech masts?

But that is not what we are debating

I do wonder if there are varying growth characteristics to SC. I dont think half of us are wrong so there must be another explanation. Honestly the only SC I have had I would trade for some douglas or larch any day when comes to its use as fuel.

This I don't understand.

Having cut and sold chestnut and oak for fire wood fir several years in Brittany.

The feed back/common Breton knowledge is that oak is denser, gives out more heat but takes two years to season (60€m3) whereas SC is less dense, seasons in one year and burns quicker (45€m3)

Bit like the softwood debate...

If you're surrounded by oak,

Burn oak.

If you're surrounded by SC burn it.

I absolutely love it.

But that's personal choice.

I've just split and tested a few bits of SC from the stack, (cut and stacked less than a year ago) its at around 23-26% I put that mostly down to the relative humidity we've had here (Brittany), it seems like it started raining around October and hasn't stopped since.

Image result for started raining didnt stop for 4 months
