@5 shires  i wouldnt tell anyone wot they should climb on ( it is in actuallity their life choice) an i kno ZZ is very popular - have seen a lot fail tho' but they do ease our job - no doubt. K

How many have you seen fail exactly? Surely there’s be loads of accidents and deaths reported if that were the case. Or are you referring to the tiny hairline cracks?

Regarding zig zag failures and “the good old prussik”

How many prussik users, make a song and dance each time they wear out their prussik or “discover” (as I used too :blushing:) that they’ve worn through the outer core?

probably the same % who dont complain about zigzag cracks and failures

One reason I went fr a knot less system. Mech prussic sinks more heat, also, forgot stopper knot once an dropped  off end of my rope . K

During the course of LOLER inspection work I have come across quite a few ZIgZag Mk 2 devices with hairline cracks, usually on the top links.

Since Petzl improved the design and increased the material in and the size of the links, I haven’t seen (or heard) of any reoccurrence of the problem on the later edition (Mk3)

I would be even more surprised to hear that the new generation larger devices would suffer from this kind of defect.

This video explains and demonstrates the limits of the ZigZag’s performance and capability comprehensively and goes a long way to inspire confidence.
