Thanks for the info. I've started working for a shop and we keep being asked if rope can spliced when it's come from a reel. At the moment we can't, but say it can be sent away which most people don't bother with

Can anyone help please

As far as I know, in order for your splices to be able to carry a ‘certificate’, you would have to train and get ‘approved’ with the rope manufacturer in order to put their stamp (with CE mark for LOLER) on any aftermarket splices.
I’m not quite sure what will happen to the CE mark requirement regarding the LOLER-ing of climbing rope after we leave the EU.
Maybe the Industry could persuade the Arb Association to spearhead a move to introduce a nationally recognised qualification for after-market splicing.
(We could all buy our mandatory second climbing ropes straight off the reel and get them spliced then)

Thank you. We mainly deal with Marlow off the reel, but Teufelberger would be good as we use them as well. We get stuff sent away at the moment and that needs to change. I've not really got the go ahead for this, but the owners son thinks it's a great idea and find out as much as possible. I'm going to the APF so can ask there, I would like to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later though
