Hi all

Iv got a friend who's got a stihl 020t and uses it for ground and fire wood he's only got the cs30 and 31 that's all is he allowed?

Many thanks

This is in the UK too thanks

What would you think is more dangerous ....Standing with both feet planted  firmly on the ground with both hands on the saw  or dangling 40 feet in the air at full stretch on a bending limb one handing it ?

Your "friend" is a very naughty boy. I have to climb a tree to test all the top handle saws I fix. Unfortunately, there are now no trees taller than 5 foot for a ten mile radius of my workshop because of this law. It is very annoying.

Iv told him but he's not having any of it so his problem? i run a 036 pro on ground which i prefer iv got my cs 30 and 31 course soon and I'll only use rear Handle saws

This feels like an episode of Mock The Week, we need Hugh Dennis to give the real but boring answer.

Is he at home or work doing this? He can use a topper in flip flops at home if he wants to, but HSE would not be impressed if he had an accident at work doing it. He would then be part of the arb accident statistics which have fuelled the two rope climbing thing.

There is no " law " saying you can't use a top handle on the ground . It is frowned upon in some circles . If he did become a statistic he would only go to A+E    (or God forbid the morgue ) not prison .
