I know they're old etc but I love my old 346xpg or did until someone borrowed it, tuned it cos he couldn't get it to start when hot then 5 minutes later it siezed! Anyway, I've got it apart, pistons a little scarred, pot seems not to bad but I'm going to replace both. My question is how do I know if it's the early model or the later? Been looking at kits & there seems to be 3 different piston sizes for it. I'm just puzzled!

Don't scrap the pot if it only slightly damaged . Most of it will be aluminum transfer  and can be removed with brick acid or similar . Get a Metier piston and rings . BUT find out why it nipped up in the first instance . If it was bad fuel ok , if it was an air leak get that sorted first or it will happen again . Best option send it to Spud for a rebuild and a port job ! money well spent .

Thanks for that, I've just been looking at the meteor pistons so may well go down that track. I think it was because he 'tuned'it too lean, apart from the hard start when hot it was running fine. Already spoke to spud not long back about that so it may well be on the cards if I can pick something up cheap to see me through.
