Is it fair to say the 450 II is a simpler and therefore more reliable saw than the 550XP II for occasional, smallholder use where a month or two might go by without use? Or is the 550XP more robust as well as being more powerful?

The 550xp II is designed to be used daily, whilst the 450 not so - I'm sure there are plenty who have cut all day long with a 450. I suspect the 450 is a clamshell design whilst the 550 has a magnesium crankcase making it more robust - for example. So if you are going to use your saw a fair bit, then the 550 may be the better route as you say you intend to cut larger wood on a regular basis.

Did anyone mention a 365X-Torq if they are still available, runs a 20" bar nicely.

I was thinking the same but it’s a big jump from 35 to 50 then 70cc! Heavy saw but ideal for ringing up logs... couldn’t find it on Friday jones site earlier, only the 565

Yes a tad heavy old school solid design, but I do love it and cut masses with mine. Radmore Tucker showing them.

Think the 565 is with auto tune, but I'm out of touch with the new stuff!

Does the divide cc/3 for max and cc/4 for minimum bar length in inches still apply?
