Husqvarna 365 special

Have a 2001 365 special which up until now has been bullet proof but with 3/4 different operators it doesn’t always get the care it needs ( it was once filled with red diesel mistaken for petrol ) ??‍♂️ Anyhow it seized the other night whilst in full flow, pistons is knackered and barrel scored most likely not proper type/amount of 2 stroke. Question is what to do now? We’ve bought a old dinosaur in the mean time 266xp which is running as new on an 18” bar, new oem parts are coming in around £200 as I’m in uk (Northern Ireland) or the cheap alternative, I would like to keep it original as it’s been so good so swaying towards original parts or convert to 372? Value for money I think just buy original parts

If you can't salvage the pot ( which most times you can ) then if you are going to rebuild it you might as well go 372 . A 372xp ( not the newer Xtorque )  will drop strait on but really you will need the 372 carb as well .

Go for the Meteor kit (circa £95), check the inlet manifold is round where it joins the cylinder, it should be if it is a Special but sometimes recoil side covers are swapped so do check as the 365 had a square inlet union with the cylinder and needs a new 372 inlet manifold if converted.

I haven't changed the carbs on the ones I have done and all tached up and ran as they should and have had none back so that should be OK as long as you do tune the saw correctly and take in to consideration that the saw will pick up revs once bedded in and may need a retune after a period of time.

Yes the nikasil bore is very hard and aluminium pick up can look like bad scores but will etch off with chemical then a meteor piston and rings can be a cheap fix.

 

That said if the saw has had a hard life I would wonder about the state of the bearings and crank seals before fitting expensive parts.
