Solar battery charger

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have an Ifor tipper stored on a local farm.

Considering a solar trickle charger suitable for outside use.

One I can hang on the trailer.

Does anyone have experience of these?

Victron are probably the best but expensive, for a trailer battery I'd just get a cheap panel from eBay and wire it direct to the battery, it's only there to keep it 'topped-up'.

I know a plant man who had one on the dash of a Transit that hadn't been started in years. Only A4 paper size. Started straight up, like it had been driven that morning. Couldn't believe it.

Genuine question (as I don’t know anything about these, but am interested in this thread) - can they discharge batteries at night etc?

Can they be fitted to a battery that is in use, or just one disconnected and solely on charge?

The cheap ones won't drain the battery at night they have a built in controller, very basic but they work. Yes you can use them with a battery that's in use.

Got to be weather proof because it will be hung on the side facing south.

Cover it with a bin liner to keep it dry.

Sorry Stuart, couldn't help myself. You can get waterproof panels that have two leads that you fix onto the battery much like battery charger leads. If you're going to get one online try bimble solar.
