Hi. Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the horizontal splitter compared to the vertical. Is the model in the picture a good recommendation? Cant make my mind up so your feed back would be grateful [emoji108]

Not had the privilege of using that but if it has a log lift ( as it appears to have )  then I would prefer that over a vertical ..... Just me .

Horizontal for logs as big as in the pic, vertical for bigger rings. What will you do most of?

Ive got a woodline splitter from fuelwood which I think is its predecessor same layout as that doing arb waste if you are doing rings on your own then go for a vertical. I have the wife on the leavers and I feed it. It is quick and and the log lift is good but if you have nice lengths of timber you have the option to billet the timber then run through the saw bench once seasoned. If the wood is ringed up and ready to just put through the splitter we can do about 1.75 to 2 loose m3 an hour which I think is a good output. Mine is the 20 ton model and it is well up to the job.

Horizontal for logs as big as in the pic, vertical for bigger rings. What will you do most of?

Its probably 50% processor work and 50% splitter. It's around £6500.

If your splitter is for stuff too big for the processor then I would go for a vertical. If it is for stuff too short for the processor but not really any bigger diameter than the log in the pic then horizontal is good. 

Downside of horizontal and big diameter logs is you have to put them through more than once.

 

I have a 20 ton Posh vertical, Hydocombi. Works off pto, my MF35 will run it and I doubt you will find anything it can't split. If you did then it probably wasn't fit for logs in the first place.

Mine was second hand but almost new and cost half of that horizontal pictured.

 

Personal choice will always come into it, I would try before you buy if at all possible.
