fungi on dead birch (Betula)

Saw this a couple of weeks back in one of the woodlands I work at on a wind thrown Birch. 

 

Potentially old lacquered brackets, but up for some suggestions.

Okay, did wonder, just wasn’t too sure due to the red colouring on the top of the bracket

a little variable in surface colour but not unusual to be dark brown (slightly reddish) towards maturation.

 

If in doubt always worth cracking open to look at flesh and tubes 👍

Yes I think the brackets were fairly old and quite tough by the time I got to seeing em.
