I bought a bundle of reclaimed pitch pine beams a while back. One beam is different and  was clearly mixed up at the yard, it is heavy, hard and barely floats.

This is a picture of the end grain, any ideas?

I know the sea defence company near me use Green Heart for groins and Purple Heart for the steps down to the beach. All of it is positioned and installed with 360’s, really big beams, really heavy stuff.
