I had a short conversation with someone recently who was trying to tell me that the sub 750kg towing limit on new licenses was old hat and had been superseded with a new law which was on the lines of, new drivers could not exceed the vehicle max mass therefore, a Transit sized truck/load/chipper combination could not exceed 3,500kg total.... anyone else heard this or was the poor chap deluded?

@Justme will know chapter and verse but there were changes for people passing their test after 2013 but they still allow the towing of a trailer up to 750kg, the total MAM of 3500kg applies if the trailer is greater than 750kg MAM in which case the MAM of the vehicle plus the MAM of the trailer must be less than 3500kg.
