I’ve found the climbing not as bad as I thought tbh, but dragging and chipping is about as bad as it gets.

On top of the bastard factor the limbs and timber are seriously heavy.

 

Keep some timber if you can, you can make some funky stuff even from shortish barrels.

Only thing worse than a monkey puzzle is a dead monkey puzzle to dismantle and chip up, I’ve still got the scars .

Cheap rigger gloves.
Then bin them after.

If you do keep any wood, get it under cover or it will mold in days.

Presumably you speak from the point of view of a miller.  Years ago I sold some big MP rings to a specialist turner and he regretted the fact that I hadn't stood the rings with the endgrain on damp carpet.

At a guess it would have initiated spalting...?  The (dead) tree had been down a couple of months when he took the rings.

Hi the monkey puzzle I have in my yard waiting to be milled is going all sorts of cool colours,I just need a day to tinker with my new mill and away to go

Think Ill try some welding gloves & maybe a garden fork for pushing through the chipper.

not this time of the year !!   I have used a fair bit for turning and find it keeps OK , spalting is a sort of grey streaking effect and not particularly attractive

Mine turned green within days of milling. Took it to a mate who has a big unit. Clouds of mold spores.
Did I mention it's sticky?....
And spiky?....
