Mature Quercus Ilex Fungi

Hola fellow tree people!

I was looking at a Mature Quercus Ilex with some decay on main trunk.

this is what i found at the base.. but can't identify it.

Ganoderma , inonotus dryadeus??

the problem is that it is very dominant over a main drive of a house.

I have to advise to apply or not surgery based on the fungi life style..more than the amount of wood left...still plenty!

sorry about the photo...could not get there earlier!

thank you

very nice looking place. Whoever gets to do the lawns and hedges around there must have a great time.

Wouldn't want to comment on the fungi side. Looks a little like G. as to the amount of decay in the tree, picus would be best probably. It would of course be much better to be able to save the tree and give it a boost with biochar and anything else to see if it can be saved. Potentially root compaction is also a problem looking at where the tree is.

I would of it if theres plenty of sound wood remaining and sound butressesing and the crown health looks excellent judging by the photo, that it would'nt need much done to it at present apart future monitoring. Taking some written measurements of sound wood/decayed/cavity with a probe and sounding hammer to assist for likely decay areas and take some photos of crown/trunk/fungi for future reference so you have some way of cross referencing for future inspections.
