There website states 056.they have also got 36’’ made for 066.660/661 .maybe the 660 would have been a better choice ? It should still cut ok but bit slow with oil flow on max

What's written on top of your Saw???!
056AV or 056SAV?
There's a big difference.
056 is about 80cc and will struggle with a 36" bar.
The 056S will do it easily at 90cc

Sorry for any confusion but I thought it’s obvious the topic is about trying a big bar on an 391.

Are people getting confused between a bar that is .056 gauge slot and a Stihl 056 chainsaw ?  (I know it usually .058 or .063 )

Anyone know what’s the biggest bar compatible with this model? I’ve got a one off job needing 36 inch
i am looking at a rotatech 36’’ one for a Stihl 056 which might fit or would the bar mounts need altering?
I know it would be slight underpowered but only need to make about 7 cuts and don’t have a need for chains this big

Ok think I follow you now.
You'll knacker your 391 running a 36" bar unless it's full skip. And even then it won't like it. 25" max is pushing it.

Stubby the gauge on all pro back handled stihl saws is 0.63
That's a husky gauge you're referring to.

Better than not getting the job done, killing your saw and being out of pocket for the rotatech bar and chain, (which are garbage by the way).

I can't say anything about the bar as I haven't used them but never had any problems with the chains. If the 391 is anything like the 390 stick the 36" bar on it and kill it anyway then get something that will do the job.
