Blower died

Just finishing up today's job and the blower cut out. It's been running fine and had been running today for about 5 minutes and suddenly cut out, almost as though it had been choked. Starts up without choke and runs fine for a few seconds and then just cuts out. Does this sound like a faulty magneto? Any ideas?

Magneto....what is it, a 1960s French/Italian moped:001_tongue:

Sounds like the carb isn't delivering fuel correctly, check the metering arm and try giving it a bit of a lifting bend of 0.5mm but do check the carb internal gauze strainer first - the one under the alloy cover with a single screw holding it in place.

I am making the assumption this is a BG85/86 and not one of the back-pack jobbies!

Sounds like it must be a 1925 Bugatti blower Steve . ?

Welch plug fallen out perhaps.

You really shouldn't have to bend the metering arm on something which was running ok previously,  that hasn't suddenly changed.

Is the machine sometimes difficult to pull over when it's been standing a while, and does it chuck fuel out of the exhaust when you first try to start it?

I don't think its the carb. Its literally like its been switched off (Bg86 btw ) which is why I thought it was something to do with the ignition. There's no more resistance pulling it over than normal and when it starts it runs very smoothly and isn't throwing out fuel or smoking on starting. It just runs for a few seconds and stops?

You say ignition coil, I say magneto - let's call the whole thing off. Ciao
