Favorite Hedge Trimmers

Recommended Posts

So I guess I need to bite the bullet and buy a long reach hedge trimmer to earn some extra dough.

What are your favorites? Whats the best bang for buck out there? Always used Stihl but im not fussy

Depends what "Long Reach" actually means but am guessing a Kombi type system. Most of my local contractors use KM56s as bring cheap and relatively reliable.

Most have 2 or 3 which always means they are covered on breakdowns if they happen.

Yep, I guess it depends whether you want a dedicated long reach hedge trimmer, such as one of the Stihl HL range, or a Combi system such as a Stihl KM

The KM56 combi is a domestic machine, so expect some problems if used professionally.  Drive cables instead of solid shafts in the engine unit, fixed harness point, etc.  (This doesn't apply to the bigger KM versions).

But bang for buck I'd probably go with one of the ECHO machines, either Combi or dedicated.

I use a dedicated long reach Husqvarna . Find it takes bigger bites than others . Got an odd angle adjustment thing on the shaft but once you get used to that its fine .

Run a couple of tanaka Tbc230s with cutter attachment, lovely cutter head for fine to heavy growth.

Have had a few brakedown but they get a hard life.

Makita EN4950H:

Vibration: Right Handle (Rear grip) 8.9 m/sec²
Vibration: Left Handle (Front grip) 6.3 m/sec²

Isn't that  high for a new machine compared to the others?

Wonder if the  extra cost of the husky or others etc is partly due paying for better anti vibration?

Husqvarna 325HE4

Equivalent vibration level (ahv, eq) front / rear handle 5.4/2.4 m/s²

Always thought the italian active stuff looks well made & they also make the most powerful strimmer in production and  made in italy not China.

Never seen any being used though...

8 different combi engines sizes ranging up to 3.0kw

So you could have a beast of a hedge trimmer...
