Yes I get that!
My daughters ex is a level 2 irata climber and he just couldn’t get his head round how we know an anchor point is safe!

i guess the right answer is we don't. Our assessment of an anchor is based on guidelines when we first start out (two times the size of your wrist i was taught) and then we base our selection based on our experience. This is where throw lines can be an issue when you can't see properly but are ascending on the one line.

As long as it’s static weight and not bounce tested as bounce testing anchors has caused problems before. Weakened the anchor and then failed once the climber began ascending.

That is exactly what happened to me about 5 years ago.  Luckily I was only 10 foot in the air or something when the anchor (60+ foot) failed.

I never bounce test with two men.

To be fair. A 20m plus anchor isnt realy visible from ground level. As yr ascending yr testing yr anchor points. Dunno how it can be quantified. Main anchor fr me is thick as my thigh. Secondary ( short) anchor would be thicker than wrist in reliable species. Double that in Beech / Ash / Conifers. K
