Plum Tree Shed All Leaves

My plum tree leaves went yellow and have now all dropped.  Any idea what could have caused this?

Mine has done similar, as have several other near me (fife, Scotland). I think it is due to the unusual weather we've had, wet but with occasional hot sunshine. J.
