New saw for Domestic Firewood

Gents, a mate of mine is looking for a new saw.  He does all his own domestic firewood so wants something that's gonna cope with anything up to about 18''.

I advised an Echo CS-390esx but its a bit beyond his budget. He's willing to spend between £350-£400 inc.  Any advice appreciated.

Thx Craig

Petrol or electric? I have done plenty of domestic stuff with my £50-ish Titan electric saw from Screwfix.

Downsides are that it is only 16” and needs a 230v supply.

Upsides are low maintenance, no fumes, quieter than a petrol saw when in use and instantly silent when stopped.

Maybe one of those and a petrol saw for bigger stuff??

This is not a recommendation, as I've not used one, but the Makita EA4300 has cropped up before with an offer that seems almost too good to be true - £245 . Might be worth asking how people with them are getting on?

Thx for the advice, will pass onemoji106.png

£ 474 seems to be the price on a Husqvarna 365X Torque . This is  a belt and braces design saw that will last a life time . Also can be converted to a 372 X Torgue with a dremmel .  The price is what Jonsie is quoting . Don't know what bar size that is for but an 18" wont stress it at all .

I had a ea4300, brilliant little saw with plenty of power and easy to start.

I have a Stihl MS181 which is a great saw for firewood processing, 16" bar big enough for the majority of cuts and it is very reliable, spares are also available readily which you might struggle to get on a low-price brand. I recommend you avoid buying any of the cheap Chinese models, I had one for less than a year and it was pretty poor - particularly the chain brake and engine  starting.
