The other problem with a trad planer is workshop space. You need a lot of infeed and out feed space as opposed to moving the head over the work.

That looks like a nice bit of kit but bet it’s expensive as it’s wood mixer ,I was offered a 4ft wide planer thicknesser by someone on hear a few yrs back but didn’t have the money unfortunately wonder if he still has it , just sorted a deal on a 25 inch thicknesser but can’t have it till November and will need a 3phase converter or genny if anybody has one they don’t want.

Inwood developments near Brighton have a 40" plus planer.
It's the size of a transit van.
A guy I know in Brittany bought a 48" 3phase planer for €300.

there are plenty of very large planers and thicknessers lying rusting away in the old estate sawmills, most were run off flat belts from either the tractor or steam............the good old days of self sufficiency

I have a 24 inch wide planer and its a monster to handle timber of big size though it.

the biggest i've seen a picture of was a 60" planer that was in America. weighed about 5-6 tons if i remember correctly.

zero flex as drum diameter is 260mm and 51'' = 1300mm, machine weighs 4 tons and has 100hp
