Log splitter incident

Splitting logs today with 7ton vertical splitter when the front of the log (nearest to me) popped off like an explosion and caught me full in the face. Nose and forehead wacked and forehead split and bleeding. Looks worse than it feels now thank goodness. No more log splitting until I get full face visor.

Nasty! Hope it’s nothing worse than bruised face and ego. Been close myself a time or 2.

Watching the the grain and staying focussed is an absolute must, not sure a face visor is the answer though.

I use impact goggles but that’s more a case of protecting against a penetrating hydraulic wound if a pipe split rather than log impact.

I have been splitting logs for years and know where to put the wedge. never had the front of a log fly off like this one did

An inch lower and it might have been a different story. My eyes would have been at risk.

I met a one eyed ex-pat who lost his eye through a log exploding.

I find the oak shreds/pollards which grow on the hedgerows to be the most vile to split with all their knots, twisted grain and rot pockets.

I've been struck in the face and often on the leg.

I feel for you.
