Received this afternoon Steve,

all good and very well packaged indeed.

I now need to modify/extend my bench to mount it.

Thanks,

Marcus

good to hear mate.

sort of had to be well packaged didn't it. this was one box i did not want bursting open on its way to you.

good thing i had some very strong cardboard still in the shed for just this sort of job...

you'll have to put up a picture of the tool in place and ready for use...

Hopefully I will get it fitted tomorrow, it will only be to a rather rudimentary ply topped bench,

IF I get various more pressing jobs sorted I kinda intend to build myself a proper woodworking bench.

I was using a router today making the mortices for floating tenon joints for to join the  shelves(at the corners) going right round a 2.0m by 2.45m utility room) using my salvaged 28mm thick teak from the old Lab benches.

I would NOT need to be charging by the hour.

Then I need to fit 30 plus replacement DG units to our 20+ year old Brazilian Cedar frames.

etc

etc

Good thread lads.
I've a Record woodworking vice that I'm in the process of renovating prior to installation. It's labelled No. 52 though it is quick release and has the screw dust cover so I'm about confused about the numbering.
The problem is that the quick release spring is broken. Anyone got an idea where I might be able to get a replacement?

The numbering is surprisingly simple, but perplexing nonetheless,;

No 52 is 8",

No 52 & 1/2 is 9"

and

No 53 is 10" across the jaws.

No idea re the replacement spring, but ebay perhaps?

Anyway here are some images of my fitment am today, the jaws were surprisingly distorted(from the factory) being a good 1/8" tighter at the top than at the bottom, so my Oak offcut liners needed quite a bit o fettling.

I went a bit overboard with the heavy(No 3 Pozidrive head) screws, more because I was unsure of the underlying blockboard core quality of the 3/4" thick Formica faced bench top, and I needed to countersink the screw heads. Aint cordless screwdrivers quite wonderful!
