Is it my imagination or have echo consistently made good saws, albeit seen in smaller quantities and with less choice than the big two.. or have I just missed the news on the dodgy echo?

Nope. Inscrutable Japanese engineering. Bit like the Mitsubishi Zero. Not heard of it until it crashes into yr battleship ? k

From what saws, brush cutters, blowers and trimmers I get in I would say Stihl to Husqvarna is circa 10:1 to 15:1.....what do other repairers find?

I think it also depends where you are in the country spud, up here on the west coast of Scotland it's prob more like 30:1 husky to stihl because most wood cutters use husky here. Imo both stihl and husky have gone downhill with reliability! Hard to beat a 461 stihl, had mine 3 years full time forestry use and only replaced oil pump and starter cord ?

Just what I get in from local operators and via couriers, interesting you have the complete opposite! Perhaps the difference between Forestry and domestic/commercial operators in the south!

Yeah think you have hit the nail on the head spud. I think the FC had a lot to do with husky being popular here, all their cutters in this area had husky saws so most of the contract cutters followed suit.

Been comparing stihl and husqvarna hedge trimmers this evening.got several hedgers but considering replacing a Stihl HS82RC which I find it too heavy / not balanced well

Looking at similar machines anyone tried husqvarna  226HD75S / 522HDR75X.

or can anyone recommend a commercial 60-75cm petrol hedger with low vibrations/ low weight well balanced

I have found that the Husqvarna hedge cutters run/rev higher than the other makes .I used to cut Yew hedges for a French  pharmaceutical company  ( cancer drugs ) and the other 2 guys I cut with ( one had a Robin and the other a Stihl ) both said my cutter sounded like a saw from a ditance .
