Husqvarna vs. Stihl

Hi guys!

Heard a few rumours recently regarding Husky (and possibly Stihl as well) using cheaper parts in their saws now. Been using a Husky 346XP for years but I really like Stihl too. Not sure whether to upgrade to a 550XP or an MS 261 C-M. Can anyone shed any light please...?

Shed any light on whether Husky and Stihl are using inferior quality parts and which make is now the better bet (the clue is in my initial post ?). Heard it from fellow professional arborists and machinery dealerships...

Stihl and Husqvarna are manufacturers, as such, they will try to use the same parts on as many of their machines as possible, they will try to simplify the manufacture of the machines, the parts will be made to a specification but will of course, be manufactured as cheap as possible.

This is so they can make products to meet end user cost expectations and make a bigger profit....simple commercialism.

With a few exceptions, saws are lighter, more powerful and more reliable than at any time in the past.

Everything in the whole world uses cheaper parts these days.

Can anyone think of anything that’s better made than it used to be?

Cars - more reliable, faster and safer

Motorcycles - Faster, don't leak oil, handle better

TVs - more reliable, better picture etc.

Mobile Phones - smaller, thinner, faster, better....

Sure - I do agree on many items, I hate it when something is made so cheap it barely meets its designed function!

What I want to know is (as originally asked), are Stihl and Husky still considered about equal in terms of quality and performance??
