Mould On Dried Firewood

Hi all,

First post.

I recently purchased some dried oak firewood from a local supplier, it was discounted due to some mold on the outside of the logs. Since I unpacked it the wife mentioned that burning moldy logs in the wood burner might not be that wise.

Naturally popped that into google, the consensus is that if the logs are seasoned or wet not a good idea. If kilned dried ok.

Thoughts & feedback would be appreciated.

It's just a bit of mold on the bark. I would not be remotely worried as long as the wood is dry

Yes just put them somewhere dry and airy and they will get below the moisture content that fungi like.

This is  much the same as I have seen from batches that were warmed up in the kiln and then removed before the moisture content had been reduced enough, the warm humid conditions allowed the fungal spores to  germinate and the fuzz is hyphae  spreading.
