Hi guys, I need to re tip some of my blades. There's a shop fairly local but just wondering who do you use?

Mine is the 10 inch cut with 5 tips

It is very important to get it right.  I have had this done by a local saw doctor and even sent them off to Fuelwood in Warwick the Lucas agent.  The only people I would recommend are Tewksbury Saw Co.  They have vans covering much of the country and know how to do it right.  They transformed one of my blades that had never been right even when re-tipped by others.

Thanks for the pointers. I'm in Sussex, I think your right, shipping them to Ireland would be counter productive.

Powertools and fixings are the local company who can re tip any blades but I'm not sure they are the best to use.

South East saws were recommended from someone else who has used them and could collect from my parents in Kent which is a real benefit.

Also Ernest Bennett saws were recommended by fuelwood.

Tewkesbury saw sounds the best, but don't cover my area for collection.

Fuelwood recommended using branded Lucas tips, but no one I've spoken with seems to be interested in this idea, I have spoken with all the above companies (except Bennett) and all want to use their own stock tips.

This is the first time I'm doing this. So I'm just hoping for a bit of first hand knowledge from you guys so I don't have to do it twice.

Thanks for the input

The lucas tips from fuelwood are pre soldered but also and most importantly pre ground to exact dimensions for use in the retipping jig ,supplied by them at extraordinary cost. Any other tipping service use oversize tips and then precision grind down to the required dimensions to ensure all clearances. This can't be done if using lucas tips. Heard good things about Bennett's.

Personally I would avoid Bennets if their re tipping service of circular blades is anything like their efforts on some bandsaws I once sent them, the workmanship was more third world than precision....

I would have thought any large resharpening specialist service would do a half decent job having brazed on the tips then side and top ground them, I would recommend Edwards precision saws in devon, if they do the job properly then any carriage cost is worth the money.

I'm based in Sussex but have used Bennetts twice for my Lucas mill blades. First time I sent some tips I had got from fuelwood and the second time they supplied them. The second time the blade definitely seemed to cut better but I never compared them one after the other so it might have just been in my imagination. I did send it up the first time as Tate fencing use them for their blades and I dropped mine In with them. Second time I was passing by and they did it as I waited.

Thanks for the input guys, it has helped. But as I don't have much milling coming up I'm going to ignore the problem for a month and sort shipping to either Bennetts or Tewkesbury when I'm less busy. Some great info shared though so thank you for the input ?
