Hitch climber trouble

75 E2E and 4 wrap 3 braid VT although have just bought a ZZ but my htp sterling SRT rope is too skinny for it ( and not ce) so rope shopping next. 78kg without kit.

So I am running Drenaline with 8mm ocean polyester(90cm)

Twisting the cord itself when forming the wraps and braids can help ‘fine tune’ the characteristics of the hitch. OP takes a bit of wearing in before it gets grippy.
Extra wrap or braid helps when new.
Transitioning from Prussik to HC can be a bit tricky at first as you will be used to holding your own weight to advance the prussik.
Doing the same with the HC means that the hitch isn’t being weighted straight away and slips before it grips.
You’ll soon get used to it.

So is 90cm too long?

I tie my own and usually find around 70 is about right. I’m using the same rope to and it works pretty good.

Op is hard cord.

 

takes a while to settle in.  It takes even longer if the cord is too long.

 

Go for a 70ish e2e or buy a few metres and tie your own.

The slipping before it grabs doesn’t suit me, kind of like Russian roulette, I’d be constantly wondering if it would grab each time.  It’s not a successful combination to me if the hitch doesn’t bite reliably each time.  It’s sometimes impossible to make a set length hitch cord work on certain hitches.

Of all the hitch cord I’ve tried (before I got a Zigzag) I found this stein stuff to be very grippy.
