I don't believe its a ranking factor, at least not in the same way as other incoming links. But if its sending traffic to your site then that certainly adds to its value.

 

On that note, people are using facebook all wrong in my opinion. Posts on facebook should be links to longer blog posts on your site. Having facebook posts on your site that lead people to facebook is totally the wrong way of going about things in my opinion.

I agree with you there.
Updating your site with new content and linking it to social media seems to be the way to get the most interest.
Maintaining a Facebook page can still be useful in the earlier stages if you haven't got a website set up or are planning on getting one.
People are more likely to trust businesses that have been around for a while.

Watched about a minute.

 

I do wonder if sometimes we forget what advertising is for, ie. to get us in front of the client, rather than win a Golden Globe.

 

It was easier in the old days of course! Ad in the local paper and the parish mag, tell the salesman from Yellow Pages to piss off, and that was it.

 

I remember when this was all fields you know.....

Hi did try FB but found to many people asking stupid questions, then not wanting to pay the price. Was advised to offer incentives like discounted services. 

But in the end closed FB down, joined Checkatrade and haven’t looked back ,along with my free listing and some work word of mouth doing ok.

We're selling a product rather than a service so use Facebook marketplace a lot. It does generate a lot interest, but as has been said there are a lot of people who can't be bothered to read the advert.  But we have had quite a few customers through the adverts and once they know about us quite a few have become repeat customers. We also use the market place ads to highlight or Facebook page.

With our Facebook page we use it to advertise the business in general rather than a specific product. We have used the boost a post option with some success.
