if your driving a combined weight of less than 3500KG from essex to newcastle this leg is ok.

If you then pick up a digger that puts you over weight your in trouble as its more than 62 miles from the vehicles base.

In reality are you going to get pulled in this 4 miles...

When I have been pulled before they ask where I started my journey, how do they know where the vehicles base is ? The log book can be registered anywhere

If it's the next day when you collect the machine surely your journey started in Newcastle, or have I missed something?

That’s my take on it, I was seeking other opinions

I can't see how it could be any other way. "Where have you come from Mr dumper", "b&b up the road". End of conversation in my mind.

Tachographs should be installed in vehicles to which
Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 applies. Certain vehicles
should be excluded from the scope of that Regulation
in order to introduce some flexibility, namely vehicles
with a maximum permissible mass not exceeding 7,5
tonnes used for carrying materials, equipment or
machinery for the driver’s use in the course of his
work, and which are used only within a 100 km radius
from the base of the undertaking, on condition that
driving such vehicles does not constitute the driver’s
main activity.
