Base anchor pulling capability’s vs isolated fork

To me as a non-Arb person, a world of difference in these 2 techniques, in that I would not dream of flipping a line through a crotch/fork and tying off at the base, I dont know why, but I would always, but always climb, however inelegantly, and most probably using ladders and tie off at the choosen pulling point.
Simple farmers son applied mechanics at work.

In my example from yesterday the tree had uplifted from the stump and had a big crack up it so unable to climb otherwise I would of climbed up to install the line

It was my interpretation of base anchoring that it also has the advantage that should the crotch fail, the rope should hopefully grab something (the next crotch down) else and not lead to having no line in the tree!

That and I'm shit with a throw line, base anchoring is easier.

point of leverage aside, i'm wondering if a base tie could potentially give a better pull, specially when using mechanical assistance. Reason being you are using double the amount of rope, thats a lot of extra energy stored up when under tension.

But how could the crotch "fail" if one has "figure of eighted" round the both limbs? if there was any reason for doubt?

 or simply use a minor limb to keep the rope "up" while encircling the main bole?

They almost never fail because if a guy can easily set a rope in a tree using a throwline he's usually the same kind of guy with the knowledge to know if the fork he's got the line through is suitable for the base tie pull. 

 

If a top fails using the base tie method it's usually because the guy who set the line was low IQ. 

 

Below is a guy's brain who can set a solid base tie for pulling a tree over, it never breaks at the top, he's almost invariably an experienced, seasoned climber -  

 

 

 

Below is a low IQ guy's brain, he sets a base tie for pulling a tree over and the top breaks mid pull regularly, he's almost invariably a ground based worker or part time climber with poor hand eye co ordination - Mark Bolam would be one such example.....despite his constant self celebratory 'bagging in' stories.
