Saelen wood chipper

Recommended Posts

I am interested in a Saelen 17dr wood chipper, not needed for heavy duty, hedging, small trees etc . We currently have an older Camon C250 which works very well BUT lifting the rear chute up and down is a nuisance. Does anyone know if the Saelen would be a good replacement?

We are engaged in maintenance rather than tree surgery which we sub out. Advice appreciated

Hedging and small trees etc will go through an ordinary chipper as long as you having raked up a load of stones and mud etc.

I had a saelen cobra, which is their full fat offering and it was an animal. It chipped long branches 6" wide faster than a 230 timberwolf but chip quality is more shred than chip and it weighed 1600kgs. Snedding was never needed due to width of hopper.

We had a saelen cougar 17dr years ago.
Was a good machine but the lombardini engine was crap. Saelen is now ts industries and they put Kubota engines on now.

We have the ts tiger which is around 27hp I believe. It's great as an all rounder but wouldn't keep up with the equivalent chipper chipping brash all day. The conveyor really helps with hedge cuttings.

You know, even the French arborists mock Saelin machines.

The tendance is to run the hammers well past their best until they are totally rounded off.

Shredding becomes progessively slower and slower and no-one notices the slow decline in performance.

I've hired machines here with 200hours on the same hammers!
