I'm not an arborist, can someone explain to me whats so bad about this job?

Well, LD, it is pruned leaving large wounds which allow fungal decay spores to enter. It is pruned at a time in the year when the tree is at its lowest energy reserves, it has been cut in a manner that has removed the classical shape of an open grown tree of its species, it is a feature tree in a park area for the public to enjoy. ( just not anymore ) k

Footpath, that tree could kill several people at once given half a chance.

So what if it isnt BS pruned. The considerate thing would be move path and low fence to dripline. In the days before compo people could die from falling tree bits without hurting the public purse

Yeah, bet it was waiting for someone to walk underneath it. All trees are evil and must be 'trimmed' cos they get so big

Why isn't there a tongue in cheek emoticon?

If possible, I try to reduce by thinning, taking out tall leaders n over extended laterals as it reduces the number of wounds compared to tipping every branch. Generally lower reaction growth n Epicormic sprouts. God knows why cutting like this is even appearing now- an fell it if it's a big liability ! K

''Tis a strange one. Someone specified the work, unless the job sheet said to 'prune tree', leaving it up to the climber to do as he/she saw fit 9_9

Maybe someone local to it wants to bell the TO to enquire at the reasoning behind it. There may be a perfectly justifiable reason, although I'm struggling to think of one unless there is no local TO and a planner with a two day tree course under his/her belt is managing the authorities tree stock :scared1::banghead:
