Saul’s words bud “cutting edge” at £600 ish or whatever it was you can justifiably expect most problems to have been ironed out in the R&D process. As an aside if I’d kept it I’d have drilled the long upper tube and used roll pins rather than grub screws as a solution.

I looked into the costs of manufacturing the components to build my own mill…
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have you seen the price of extruded aluminium profile lengths…
Not to mention all the bespoke engineering…
Think I’ll stick to just using them…

Yeah I know it’s not cheap. I’m happy with the standard Alaskans Saul, Trakmet will do a 1.2m diameter log so the 880 doesn’t get much use at min which was a factor in why I didn’t go forward with sorting the Panther. To be honest to manufacture the mill to a standard that it had no lash in gears etc or movement anywhere would probs result in it being twice the weight and cost. The guy who’s mill I was using is working for a firm doing decommissioning in the N Sea using ROV deployed diamond wire and abrasive cutting systems so with my background etc we maybe tend to look at the engineering on things with a slightly more critical eye.

like I’ve said it’s not really criticism as such it just wasn’t the direction I wanted to go ie fettling something at the time. I’m not adverse to that and currently have a list of mods I want to do on the Trakmet mill to improve things as I see it, some involving pretty extensive fabrication etc.
