Because Manly Spirit. We thumb our nose at "risk" and do for ourselves instead of paying other men to do for us.

@josharb87 I am slowly getting into climbing and treework, and getting more gear. However, safe gear (for climbing, life support) is expensive and I dont want to take risks with that. I do like to make gear and try making stuff in the workshop, so its to save some money and for the fun of building it ;) Safety is more important then anything, so I wont take risks, thats why Im asking for experience with homemade gear.

i have done welding and fabrication in the past and happened to have the right sized rod in the workshop so knocked one up in 10 mins. i enjoy making things so was worth saving the £50
