Mine too eggs I have already got one that I rent out that brings 5k a year in and it is earning from day 1 There is some work with the renting but you are not lining the suit pockets. My advice to anyone is to either buy new or a wreck and gut it you will have many trouble free years and can be picky with your tenants. I let mine through an agent who finds me a tenant then I

manage the money and day today things myself. I know 3 financial advisors and they all have a good life with not a lot of work and they all have some property investments.

Buy to let landlords are scum.

We have more houses than people in the uk, yet massive homeless and housing problems.

My family was made homeless in September 2017, when our letting agent decided to put our rent up by £300 a month.

No other BTL landlord or agency would touch us, as we are both self employed???

Even though we had £7k to put down???

Buy to let? Don't be that c***

I dont agree with this in the slightest. Buy to let landlords do not create homelessness. They are not in the business of having empty homes not earning any money. You may well have a personal grievance but if the Landlord could put the rent up by as much as 300 a month then you have to ask why was it so cheap before and someone else is willing to pay that so its clearly the market rate. They are not charities, if you want that go rent a Council Flat or pay the going rate.

We could have purchased several houses to rent out, but choose not to, (we invested in some farmland, with much much, much lower annual income instead)

Why?

Because financially savvy as the wife and myself are, we are both incapable of dealing with poor, or indeed downright bad tenants, or indeed just the every month/every week/every day potential hassle.

Unfortunately there is some truth in the notion that the landlords best placed to make a profit, are the unscrupulous types, perhaps  with "heavy" friends to enforce matters.

So, essentially decent tenants get screwed by tough unscrupulous landlords,

and

Decent Landlords get screwed by unscrupulous non-rent paying or  destructive tenants.

However

The bulk of rented properties lie in the uncontentious middle ground, but the 2 extremes get all the publicity

Such is the human condition.

Tarring all BTL landlords with same brush based on your own limited experiences is wrong and narrow minded.
Letting agents take a risk based approach to the whole process, plenty of landlords have suffered at the hands of unscrupulous tenants.
The whole BTL game is now tipped more towards the poor tenant than the wealthy nasty landlord.
Get rid of BTL landlords and see where things go....

Is there really more houses than people in the U.K.?

BTL landlords come in all shapes, I'm not into stiffing people, but I can't see a better return, if anyone knows of one tell me about it. The problem, as I see it is people buying up property then leaving them empty, lots of wealthy foreigners have done this in London to hide up dodgy money.

the annoying thing with pensions.

Lets say your a dosser, living on dole and handouts. So free house, no council tax, free spending money etc Saved nothing, earned nothing. They get pension credits and ta da more free money.

Kind of makes doing the right thing, working hard etc rather pointless.

And socialists/labour want more of this nonsense. They must be mentally ill.

No they don't, traditional labour voters don't want anything like this nonsense, but let's not put facts in the way of a good on line rant.

Anyway, back to the best return for later in life.

It falls in the “do gooders section” along with all other free hand outs the uk gives.
