right, never owned one just played with other poeples, from home owner to diesel heater steam pressure hot boys.

think it would be handy to have one, few vehicles need waxoyling and feels like i may as well do it myself of at least clean it myself and pay one of my children to do it.

not wanting to spend loads, happy with second hand, what are the reputable makes/models out there,

i expect i will need spare parts at somepoint so having some sort of availability is a consideration.

dont think i need hot/soap

thanking you

Have a chat with jet wash north east at Cramlington Bill, I got a cracking 2nd hand marcher deisel hot wash from there for reasonable money. Knacked 3 household karcher type ones over the years and had a Honda engined cold one for a while but the big ones knock the socks of them and you can always flog it on later if need be. The heat is fantastic for degreasing parts etc.

Petrol or electric Bill?
Was imagining electric, I know next to nothing about them like.

Was thinking a diesel heated one would be mega bucks and prolly a bit over kill for the odd cleaning of things that I need. It'll mostly be for cleaning shitty undersides of vehicles trailers chippers etc

I've had a homeowner stihl one for the last 8 /10 years. Really rate them. Mines now getting past its best but will replace it with another one when the time comes. It's done all the usual work with ease.

To my knowledge nilfisk alto make the internals for stihl powerwashers, a touch cheaper than the stihl branded machine like for like. I use a diesel heated one on occasion, belonging to a neighbour who runs a quarry. Serious cleaning power! Cleans hardened 804 off the shovels like its not there. But they're  pricey and can give a bit of bother if you run them with clogged filters. If it's greasy stuff you're dealing with, go for heated, for household or light industrial cold with a little detergent works well enough.

I have the old style k7 karcher. It's very good. You can put chemical on with it also ( I refill the karcher bottles with my own wash and wax) the underbody washer kit is also worth it, try to do mine regularly in winter, don't get soaked and only takes a few minutes ?

Agreed, have used diesel hot washers before, very good but was put off by an old car body repairer explaining that the steam can actually increase the effect any salt has on the underbody.... Not sure what truth was in it but it does make sense
