I have a small chipper TP100 and the batteries goosed.. has been since I got it.  I can usually start it with a pull but yesterday It wouldn't start.

So I'm thinking its about time I put a new battery on it..  Only I don't know if it has to be some special battery or any old car battery.. its an 18 HP briggs an stratten..

I think the battery it came with isn't the original one so can't really go off that..

Something you don't know all about, well I'll be blowed!

Yes, any starter battery will do.

On the off chance any petrol car battery would do I went to visit the scrappers..  yes the ones from off't telly, and bought a second hand one.. I'm just havin a roll up then I'll stick it on and see if I've been ripped off or not...

Anyways Eggs at least I have some reassurance I haven't wasted my time this morning visiting the scrappers.... Thank you....

Have you put a test meter on the battery, if so what does it read at rest?

Errr, no..  it cost twenty quid,, if its goosed it ain't such a loss and now I know any car battery will do I don't mind buying a new one if the scrapper ain't up to scratch..   though he said I could change it if it didn't work..

Just a thought (  not found it on youtube though)  you need to make sure that the battery is compatible  with the charging circuit , well the alternator . There would be no point in getting a massive heavy duty lorry battery if the alternator would not be able to charge it fully , conversely  don't get a pissy little battery where the alternator could over charge it and even boil it ...    @Vespasian
