There was an article about churchyard Yew recently on one of the FB pages. There is a group that are seeking to record / protect church / cemetery Yew, and there’s like, a Yew interest group also. If yome really keen to ‘do it right’ Mark, I’ll see if I can find the links / contact details - they may be willing to offer some input to your tree owner / architect fellows?

Or just tell them there are ancient mythical powers associated with cemetery Yew which will consume their souls and condemn them to pergatory if they fuck around with it...

Slight derail, but I have been asked to price this by a local church.

An architect has said the tree needs ‘trimming back or pollarding’ because it is ‘casting shade on the graves’.

I can’t see an obvious solution.

A light reduction won’t achieve anything, and a mullering will look awful for years.

Either way there will still be shadow on the graves!

I can’t believe an architect doesn’t understand basic physics!

I might just pass on it.

They have to be the hardest tree to reduce nicely, stand on a branch and it dips, cut it and it comes up like a jack in the box too long or too short.
