What is the best type of wood you have used for your stove?

I knew Americans rate locust very highly and had looked it up and found its pseudo acacia/robinia.  I'd started to notice it's not uncommon in parks... It helped seeing a labelled tree in crystal palace park.  When I got offered the chance to gather some I jumped, and now I'll always jump. I found it burnt like Oak and it was really really really easy to split.

Dry Beech is my favourite, but any dry wood is good. I like to mix hard and softwood in our stoves. Larch and Sitka mixed with some Ash and Hawthorn makes for a blisteringly hot fire with a great flame picture.

 

Oh and dry Birch is fabulous for flame pictures when used in a stove - a lot of the decent stove manufacturers use it for their brochure photos.
