It depends on if he has the factory interface. He may have updated the latest firmware but there is little that can be done other than that - perhaps resetting to default but that's about it.

Personally I would whip the muffler off and look at the piston through the exhaust port. You can also measure the compression as a good indication of the general state of the engine.

It does sound like a lazy mechanic UNLESS he has seen that the piston has nipped up but a new piston would sort that!

You can store your details on the Autotune ........looks like it has already been done against the previous owner.
