A friend has bought a leccy van, I think its a Vauxhall. Sort of escort sized thing and all electric with no engine, he gets a sixty mile range out of it on a charge and is impressed with it. Does all he needs on a day to day basis and the thing is tax free and mot exempt, whats not to like?

As Tesla have revealed their fully electric articulated lorry I would think they would be developing a pickup. Would be good.... the prices need to start coming down though.

Electric vehicles make financial sense for some people if they get access to a free to use charging point.  For someone like me even if I could afford to buy one the fuel savings would be minimal.

If our government are serious about reducing transport emissions they need to subsidise electric vehicles and hit gas guzzlers harder.  Make it an easy decision to switch to electric.

I’ve got my name down for a bollinger if I can afford it when they get released. I’m amazed no ones building electric defenders yet, you can buy all the chassis parts easy. Drive motor on each wheel for fantastic breaking/traction, plenty of room in/above chassis for battery, would probably have more power and torque, not worried about battery weight, most users won’t go far in one journey, folk love the look and pay over the top prices anyway!

if I had millions in the bank that’s what I’d be having a go at.

Whats the betting when we do get them they will be fitted with loads of pointless electric gadgetry? I just want a basic electric workhorse with no guff to go wrong. Loads of torque for towing and our hills and I dont even need much range doing log deliveries. Did one of those carbon footprint tests and my truck is the worst emitter of C02 in my lifestyle and be nice to sort that.

Last I saw on that subject - about 6 months ago - they had no plans for a pickup but those in the American industry reckoned that such a thing would be the size of an F150; not the most practical vehicle on our roads.

But that size is a good starting point; the speed of technology development means that such a vehicle would soon be down to GB size, even if not made by Tesla.
