Wage! How much should the going rate be?

I get £100 a day with a local firm that is literally 5 minutes from my house, I use all their kit and they can fill any spare days I have, so I think its worth keeping with them at that rate.

Anywhere else I charge £120, most people won't pay it though. One of the largest tree companies here in West Wales was paying a lead climber £8 an hour PAYE last year. I've been laughed at for quoting £130 a day to a company an hours drive away with sporadic work.

Due to the above I'm focusing more on my own work now, probably cheaper to pay someone an extra £20 a day than generate extra local competition!

£8ph, thats ridiculous! nd i think £120 a day for a climber is very reasonable! I happily pay £150+ for a decent climber

That's half your problem.
I've just moved to Huddersfield, and I've spoken with a few local firms.
Rates are really bad here.
I'm probably going back down south for subbing.

How much are you after and what do you bring to the party?

In fairness most firms will have all the same kit and a lot more.

Most  would require you to turn up in ppe and a lunchbox and waterproofs thats it.

how are you different to other groundies without the kit that warrents the day rate?

not being arsey just how i see it

I know how to use all that kit to make your 3 day job into a 2 day job.
