confession. I never have slackened off the chain when I have finished. I know you should for when it contracts when cooling. could it be that? I can't believe most people slacken off, not in human nature

Doubtful, if you were having it contract that much then you would of had to of had some serious heat build up in the first place to which your chain would of obliterated already during use. I personally do think you have a part issue with heat though contributing to your failures.

Never slackened off after milling myself. Never snapped a chain milling neither. I suspect, if you now have the correct lopro sprocket for the chain, and you have a new chain you wont snap it. Potentially due to wear from wrong sprocket and multiple DIY chain link fixings you are having issues. Youd know pretty quick if it weren't oiling, assuming you are experienced with saws ( reckon so).

well the oil res needs filling when I refill the fuel, a nice film comes out onto the ground when I put the throttle on and I have turned the oil input to full. gonna give Rob a little more business and get a new chain (lo pro). if that snaps then I give up

so, Rob D, i have a logosol M8 20" .050 bar with 661, your web site says the Stihl 3614 (what i have) was developed with logosol but for larger rigs. now with the M8 i can really only handle stems less than 20" anyway and the 3614 came with the logosol ms661 package so if it is the original sprocket that has caused the damage then i am surprised they haven't heard about it.

all on here say they never had a chain snap but i am pleased to see your web page mentions chain breakage as one of the cons of the Lo pro. Also i read on some american website that Lo pros are more for lower power set ups.

you say on the same page the oregon 91R is better suited to small bars. shall i give that one a try?

My oil tank needs filling when i refuel on my 026, theres about 1/4 of oil left if that, but i’m only pulling a 16 inch bar, your pulling twice+ the length so your gona need a good amount of oil for that size of bar / chain. I’ve never milled myself (but would like to in the future) so i’m no expert Westy, just looking at it in a mechanical sense. I’m sure RoughHewn / possibly Wonky mentioned in another post about a uprated oiler kit for saws associated with milling? I think like billpierce said earlier you may cure it with a brand new chain with no previous wear / stresses.

also surely logosol would know if the set up needed an uprated oil kit?

Imho you wont need an updated oiler with a 20" bar. I ran a 30" no bother on my 66

My bag!!! ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ just read bill’s post and re-read your earlier post! Thought you were using 36” bar for some reason! ? ignore the oiling issues [emoji23]
