Unimog Trailer brakes

Hello, after some Unimog advice. 

 

I have a 406 and I want to build a trailer for it. How do the trailer brakes work on a mog ? Can you use an artic trailer axle and just plumb it in to the trailer brake coupling on the mog ? I have chance of a nice 9t axle on super singles and this would be ideal if it would work

 

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Not sure for the 406 but think they are all on air.. as far as i am aware the older mogs will need the couplings updated and an emergency brake line added if not already available but you are on the right track, try to get the auxillary air tank with the axle if possible, you will need one anyway.. I cannot advise regarding trailer compliance once its finished.. over here (ireland) you now need type form compliance for any trailer over 4 ton and 40kph. thats what as stopped me from having one built from an old lorry.. it may be worth looking in holland or germany for a specially built unimog trailer, three way tip, air, right type drawbar etc.. not a huge amount there but always one or two that will be worth the money..

dont know if you are aware but if running on air there is a fair bit of stuff in between the couplings on the mog and the brake chambers need a load sensing valve airtanks and a few other valves form memory 
There is a company that advertises in some of the ag magazines that sell the whole kit if you cant get hold of it and i think its around £2500 for everything so might be worth seeing if you can source the parts first 
They can also supply an onboard stand alone abs system
