Most-polluting wood burner fuels due to get the chop

Recommended Posts

"The sale of traditional house coal will be phased out under proposals set out in the government’s draft clean air strategy in May, which are expected to be confirmed by Gove’s department on Friday. Restrictions are also expected to be placed on the sale of wet wood, particularly in urban areas."

Good to see on coal,  as for wet wood councils dont have the staff to enforce smoke control areas let alone wet wood sales.   Good idea in theory,  but !!.    Then you have the wood fairey, scavenging wood usually for own use from everywhere,  nothing to prevent them putting in their own stove.   I dont think there is any way that can be prevented other than education.

There is  this provision mooted in the discussion paper:

"

• Provision of powers for local authorities to take action for persistent smoke
offences, where local amenity is harmed.

"

So it will be peer pressure from neighbours that they will expect people to take notice of, just as what happened with tobacco smoking, it became socially castigated before any law could be enforced.

ooooooooOOOOOOooooo,   yeah its a great lack of thought, it doesn't waste much money to create needless legislation...just a few thousand hours of parliament.....  We could waste money and fail to afford a few more public services.

There is no doubt that we are moving towards more efficient stoves and fuel types which create less emissions. Many believe that the goverment is simply targeting stoves so at some point they will introduce yet another green tax (Where do these green taxes go? What are the spent on?) in the name of the environment.

As mentioned above, local authorities are already stretched with their budgets and weak finances. The idea of encouraging neighbours to report each other does not sit well with the "Big Society" we are all supposed to be part of. Michael Gove seems to be obsessed with stoves - he just wont let it go despite the fact the industry has made great strides without his "assistance".
