Best 30inch double sided hedge cutter?

Apologies if this has been covered before. I have just rebuilt an older Stihl hs81r, which I quite like to work on, the gearbox con rods are great now there are no more needle bearings making sharpening much quicker and less hassle.

The things that annoy me about this model is that the blade quality seems pretty poor(soft), I remove blades and lightly sharpen at least twice per year adjusting spacers too. My other annoyance are the two bolts that stick out underneath and flick up bits of already cut hedge especially on tight conifer etc. I preferred the older hs80 as it didn't have these bolts although took longer to take blades off.

My question is.... Is the 82r much different and what are you guys currently using? Not tried the huskies or the Honda so interested in other views

Hs80 was a good solid trimmer cout take some grief and built like a tank. 

 

I have a hs82 seems flimsy but less vibes. Should last with CARE. Handle looks like something out of a christmas cracker though when you look at springs underneath etc

The Honda is supposed to have self sharpening blades that actually work not just a sales gimmick. 4 stroke though so a bit heavier than others.

Does anyone use a "short shaft long reach"  with a regular strimmer harness for nearly all stuff?

 

 

 

Kind of have an idea that  may be best type of do it all machine for the majority   hegdes, less hard work but not tried one.

I use a husky  short longreach formation good machine lots of reach over standard machine as you can use it one handed and most of the time the weight is behind right hand so balance is good.

Doesn't it have a harness attachment loop cant' see one....?

Echo, efco & Stihl do a similar one also

 

 

 

 

Also looking @  makitas because they are cheaper than the other top brands "pro" versions can't find any feedback on them though.

They do not have one because you do not need one, if you find the need get a loop of string .
